Viton is a brand of synthetic rubber &
fluoropolymers commonly used in O-rings, &
other moulded & extruded heatshrink tubings.
The name is trademarked by DuPont Performance
Elastomers L.L.C. The performance of
fluoroelastomers in aggressive chemicals depends
on the nature of the base polymer & the
compounding ingredients used for moulding the
final products. This performance can vary
significantly when end-users purchase Viton
polymer containing rubber goods from different
sources. Viton is generally compatible with
hydrocarbons but imcompatible with ketones such
as acetone. Viton is used becasue of its lower
probability of catching fire, even with the
